Joan Diane Suski, 80, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Joan was born on November 9, 1943, in Rockford, to Robert and Margaret Brown. She was invited to attend Broadway Covenant Church by one if her childhood friends, which led to her family making Broadway their church home. Joan attended Sunday school at Broadway, was confirmed there, and later was married at Broadway. She attended Sovereign Grade School, Lincoln Junior High School, and graduated from East High School. She also attended Rockford Business College, studying stenography, shorthand, and keypunch. She then went on to work for Ingersoll Machine tools as a keypunch operator for several years. On September 20, 1969, she married the love of her life, Henry Suski. They would have celebrated 55 years together this year. They made their home together in Belvidere. They made several good friends while joining the young couples group at Broadway Covenant. On August 12, 1971, they had their first daughter, Colleen Ann, and later, on September 14, 1981, they had their second daughter Katherine Maureen. She enjoyed sewing various items, later attending a Singer Sewing Class along with her mom, learning how to use their new sewing machine. She made a stuffed animal cat for her brother Jeff, which they named Tuffy Suzy, and she made clothes for his other stuffed animals. She enjoyed gardening, growing many vegetables and flowers, along with watching comedy shows and game shows on TV.
She is survived by her husband, Henry; daughter, Katherine Suski; siblings, Janis Kasberger, Judith Prather, James (Leah) Brown, Jonathan Brown, and Jeffrey (Lisa) Brown; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Colleen Suski; parents, Robert and Margaret.
A visitation for Joan will take place at Advantage Funeral Home on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM, until her time of service at 12:00 PM. Burial of ashes to take place following services at Willwood Burial Park.
