Joseph N. Mullendore, 98, of Durand passed away Wednesday July 27, 2022 with family by his side at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Joseph was born on April 14, 1924 in Bulls Gap, TN; son of George and Della (Bryant) Mullendore. He left school at a very young age to help out after his dad died. Joseph worked for Modern Metal, Willwood Cemetery and Highland Memorial Gardens. He was long standing member and Deacon at Woodside Baptist Church. Joseph helped start Beverly Park Baptist Church as well as several other area churches. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Joseph married Frances “Sister” Johnson in 1949 and she preceded him in 1980; he then married Reta Skaar in 1983 and she preceded him in 2008.
Joseph is survived by his sons: Dennis (Marlene) Mullendore and Gary Mullendore (Deb); grandchildren: Shawn (Vicky) Mullendore, Tina Mullendore, Gary (Teresa) Mullendore, Alta Mullendore, Rachel Mullendore and Melissa Tapia; great-grandchildren: Karyn Mullendore and Caleb Mullendore; daughter-in-law: Barb Mullendore; step-son: Larry (Joann) Skaar; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents George and Deli; wives: Frances and Reta; son Wayne Mullendore; 3 sisters: Alta, Margaret and Catherine.
Visitation for Joseph will be Monday August 1, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Advantage Funeral Home 7000 West State Street in Rockford; services to celebrate Joseph’s life will be Tuesday August 2nd at 10:00 AM with visitation from 9:30 AM until service time with Pastor Gary Peterson officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Willwood Cemetery.
