

Ruby Jewel Brown, 82 of Rockford passed away August 10, 2014. Ruby was born November 1, 1931 in Curtis Arkansas. She was the daughter of Alberta and Julius Caesar Horton. Ruby was the oldest of 5 children and the wife of the late Thomas A. Brown.
Ruby was a long time member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, member of the Lydian’s Ministry, and a member in the weekly exercise class.
Ruby is pre-deceased by her late husband, Thomas Brown, her father and mother Julius Caesar and Alberta (Goza) Horton, brothers Julius and Michael Horton, and daughter Sheila Waller. Ruby leaves to cherish her loving memory sisters Vera Forte of Rockford, Ill and Marcella Allen of Mt. Pine, Ark. Ruby also leaves children Maxwell (Angela) Brown of Arlington, TX and Sharon Turner of Chesterfield, VA. Ruby’s loving family includes 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A service to celebrate Ruby’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Pilgrim Baptist Church 1703 S. Central Ave in Rockford with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Board officiating. Visitation for Ruby will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
