

Mr. Porbeck received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master of Music degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He was a music department faculty member at Virginia Union University from 1968-1971 and later taught several music courses at St. Louis Community College. As a church organist and choirmaster he served Nelson Presbyterian Church from 1971-1976, Union United Methodist Church from 1976-1980 and St. John’s United Methodist Church from 1980-1997. A pianist and piano teacher, he co-founded the Clayton Academy of Music. Mr. Porbeck had a keen interest in history and classic automobiles, and treasured the friendships resulting from his memberships in the Pierce-Arrow Society and several other car clubs.
Visitation will be held at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa at Watson on Mon. May 23, 2016 from 6-8 PM and at Union United Methodist Church, 3543 Watson on Tues. May 24, 2016 from 9:00 AM until time of service at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Union United Methodist Church are appreciated.
