Alvin graduated from Snow Hill High School and served in the Maryland National Guard for 8 years. A cook by trade he owned his own Restaurant “The Highway Café”, and cooked at Reeds Drug Store, Pittsville Diner, and lastly at B&J Market. He loved working outside and was known for a meticulous yard. He was a member of Rock Christian Fellowship Church.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Marianna “Dizzy” Bromley; children, Vanessa Jones (Tim), April Mansfield (Joe), Mark Smith (Carole), Michael Smith (Kensie), Martin Smith, and Mary Kay Abrams; 25 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and sister, Irene Simpson. He was preceded in death by son, Matthew Russell Porter and grandson, Kevin Diaz.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11am at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Pastor Derek Brown and Pastor David H. Thompson will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens.
