Anna Maria Meredith, 94, of Salisbury passed away February 20, 2026, at Lakeside at Mallard Landing. Born September 6, 1931, in Trieste, Italy she was the daughter of the late Delio and Lidia Fontanot Privati.
Anna lived through World War II, Mussolini’s fascist rule and it's fall in Italy in 1943, and the rise of the Iron Curtain of Communism very near her hometown in1947. She met her late husband, Donald Meredith, while he was stationed in Italy with the U.S. Army and she was working as a translator. After their marriage in 1954, Don was reassigned to North Carolina and Anna moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to live with his family, who she had never met before. Anna moved around the country with her husband and sons, living in Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee as well as in Germany, before spending her later decades back in and around Salisbury.
Anna retired from Social Services in Maryland and previously worked for Salisbury State College and the Daily Times newspaper. Throughout her life she enjoyed swimming in the Adriatic Sea in her youth to the water exercise classes at the YMCA in retirement. She loved watching Italian television which fed her curiosity for history and politics and often led to a list of questions to look up.
She is survived by her sons, Graham Donald Meredith (Susan), Richard David Meredith (Karen), and Mark Meredith; grandchildren, Molly Meredith, Heidi Patriquin, Jason Meredith, Marisa Pavlomanolakus, Sara Miller, and Mitchell Meredith; great-grandchildren, Kaison Meredith, Malcolm and Esme Patriquin, Camden Meredith, Sawyer and Rory Miller, and Elliot Meredith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Meredith in 2005 after 51 years of marriage, and sister, Delia Privati.
Don, Richard, and Mark, would like to express their sincerest gratitude for God blessing them with Susan Miles. For the last 43 months Susan has brought a special touch to their mother's care. In seeing that Anna received all that she needed in a loving way with laughter, fun, and a womanly touch. The family would like to express their gratitude to all of the staff, fellow residents at Lakeside at Mallard Landing, and for the care and kindness she received from Tidal Health, Encompass Rehab, Deer's Head Rehab, and Coastal Hospice during her residencies.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 5 at 10am at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury.
