Donald Dorman Duffel of Salisbury, Maryland passed away peacefully on Thursday, March, 17, 2022, at the age of 89 at his home with his beloved family by his side. He was born in Salisbury on September 3, 1932, to father Henry Duffel and mother Ruth Dorman Gladden. During his formative years, he resided in Laurel, Delaware and relocated to Vienna, Maryland. He was drafted to serve in the Korean War during his senior year of high school just a few months prior to graduation and served from 1953-1955. Upon separation, his rank was a Corporal E-4. Despite not graduating with his friends as a young man; in a deeply meaningful ceremony - he was finally recognized by the Wicomico Board of Education and received his high school diploma in January 2007.
Once home from serving in Korea, he and his wife Mattie were married on December 20, 1958. As a dedicated career printer with Atlantic Litho printers for over 40 years, he always found time to travel with his wife, family, and beloved friends Nancy and Earl Ressler, spent time at the pool in Ocean City, Maryland, and made time for home projects. Luck found Don at the casino often, and he enjoyed walking out with a heavier wallet. Don was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for over 60 years.
Don’s greatest and most important gift to us was his unwavering loyalty and support through difficult times, and profound love of his family and friends. He is deeply missed and will never be forgotten.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years Mattie Goehringer Duffel; daughter Kim Twilley and son Timothy Duffel; granddaughter Jennifer Schermerhorn and her husband John Schermerhorn, Jr., great-grandchildren Claire Schermerhorn and Cole Schermerhorn, and grandson Phillip Twilley and granddaughter Aimee Twilley.
A memorial for Don is planned for Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 12pm at Bounds Funeral Home (705 E Main Street, Salisbury, MD 21804).
