

Isabelle Gemeny, 94, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at Wicomico Nursing Home surrounded by her family. Born October 1, 1921 in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late George Calder Wells and Hilda Victoria Nelson Wells. A WWII Seaman First Class WAVE Navy Veteran, she served in communications as a decoder from 1943-1945 and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 64. Prior to joining the Navy, Isabelle attended State University of New York in New Paltz. With a love for learning she took classes at Salisbury State and Wor-Wic Community College. Isabelle was a librarian assistant at Salisbury State College for many years and was a school crossing guard for Wicomico County. She volunteered with the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack, Salisbury City Police, Art Institute and Gallery, and Bethesda United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Nelson Andrew Gemeny; daughters, Susan Marie Gemeny and Sharon Gemeny Benoit; six grandchildren, Erin Brumbley, Brandon Gemeny, Kristen Gemeny, Cassie Kitler, Alan Tarwater, and Corey Benoit; three great-grandchildren, Hailey Grant, Eli Kitler, and Cade Tarwater; brother, Dewitt of Winston-Salem, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Gemeny in 2005; and brother, Ralph of Poughkeepsie, NY. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10am at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Dan Rich will officiate. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday evening from 6pm-8pm at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury.
