They married, October 24, 1965, in San Antonio, TX. He was a Lead Foreman for SAWS; retired after 40+ years of service. Carmen was a Cafeteria Manager for SAISD; retired after 40+ years of service. She also worked for Bill Miller Barbecue Catering for 30+ years and enjoyed catering all of John K. Miller’s personal family gatherings. They were retired and a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother/wife, mother, grandmother, Aunt and sister.
Hobbies: They enjoyed the Flea Market and taking kids & grandkids to San Antonio Shoe (SAS), S.A. Zoo, Fiesta Texas, Kiddie Park, and Playland, David loved hunting/fishing and reading the daily comics and puzzles in the newspaper, listening to Oldies and Tejano Music and watching the Western Channel with his all-time favorite Gunsmoke. Carmen enjoyed reading Danielle Steele books and cooking for the family. They both enjoyed going to Las Vegas, watching/attending sport games for kids and grandkids, watching NFL Football, Baseball, Boxing, Tennis and any other sports on Pay Per View to share with the family.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to their nurses, doctors and the staff for their special care that they received at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital and Northeast Baptist Hospital. A special thanks to Connie Almaguer for her friendship and support these many years to Carmen Barrera.
David and Carmen are preceded in death by their daughter Sylvia Ann Barrera Stiles, their parents David Barrera Sr. & Margarita Q. Hernandez and Santiago Fernandez Sr. & Antonia Serna Fernandez, Carmen’s brothers Santiago Fernandez Jr., Felipe Fernandez Sr., Fernando Fernandez, and David’s brother William Cantu. Brothers in Law Jesse Solis, Rudolpho Perez, Sisters in Law Irene Fernandez and Leticia Cantu.
They are survived by their children: Sandy Barrera Castro (Arthur), David Barrera III (Laura), Damien Barrera (Genevieve); their grandchildren; Ryan A. Castro, Ashley E. Castro, Giana A. Barrera, Mason Longoria and Kayla Barrera.
