Deborah Ann Gray was born to Charlie Gray Sr. and Martha Gray in Norfolk, Virginia, December 1st, 1948. The youngest of five children, her siblings, Charlie Gray Jr., Marie Dubois, Richard Gray, and William Gray, were all much older, with the closest in age being William at seven years apart.
Moving in the late sixties, she found herself in San Antonio. After three separate blind dates, and about a year's worth of dating, Deborah and Felix Rodriguez were married May 1st, 1971. Ready for a family, they put down roots at the house on Greer St. after the birth of their first daughter.
Whip smart and quick with a comeback, if she didn’t know the answer to something, you could bet that she’d find out. She could talk to anyone about (just about) anything, tough times included. Whether those times were emotional or just about tax season, she could hold your hand through either and make sure you had a laugh after.
A love for animals marked her whole life. There was always a place in her heart and home for anyone who needed it, four legged friends included. Dogs, cats, the occasional dove or rabbit, each and every one was treated like the family member they were.
She was an avid reader, with soft spots for fantasy, romance, fantasy romance, sci-fi, and the occasional mystery. If she thought a book was worth it, she’d certainly let you know. Sharing the stories she collected was almost as good as reading them for the first time.
Creative to her core, there was a constant rotation of crafts and personal projects. From ceramics, to sewing, baking, and more, her love and care was poured into everything she did. Princess costumes, dinosaur birthday cakes, and baby blankets, all made with an attention to detail that only comes from truly seeing the intended recipient. To be seen is to be loved, and she loved us so much.
She is preceded by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her husband Felix Rodriguez, her three daughters, Deborah James, Roxanna Waits, and Teresa Garza, her seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
