

Englbert Hugo Spaeth better known as “E.H.” passed away on January 15, 2014. He was born on April 1, 1924 in Lindsay, Texas to Albert Spaeth and Joesphine Block, the sixth of ten children. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; his parents, Albert and Josephine Spaeth; 4 sisters Ann Belmont, Agatha Garner,Celilia Harty, Christine Small and a brother Raymond Spaeth l. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia and son Stephen with his wife Trine; his sisters, Lucy Luker, Ida Mueller, Helen Magee, Betty Traugoot and numerous nieces and nephews. At the age of 6, his family moved from Lindsay, Texas to Helena, Texas where they lived for a year, then moved to Runge, Texas where he attended elementary and high school until he entered the Navy in 1942 when World War II was declared. He served in the Navy for 3½ years on the U.S.S. Brazos, an oil tanker. He was a machinist mate traveling to many military bases in the Aleutian Islands and Alaska. While living in Runge, Texas, his family were members of St. Anthony Parish, where he served as an altar boy until his confirmation when he joined the choir and was a Boy Scout leader. While he was in the Navy, his family moved to San Antonio and became parishioners of St. Joseph Church (downtown). After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and worked for them for 2 years, but had to resign as his father became ill and was needed closer to home. HE went to work for Greyhound Bus Lines and remained with them for 36 years, when he retired in Nov. of 1984. He met a beautiful young lady, Dorothy Cichon, through his involvement with St. Michael’s Dramatic Club and the dated a year and were married on May 9, 1953 at the St. Michael’s Church where his in-laws were married and his wife and her 2 brothers were baptized, made their first communion, were confirmed , and graduated from. From their marriage, he has 2 wonderful children, a girl Cynthia, who is a nurse and a son Stephen, who works for a high Technological Laboratory and has traveled all over the world in his job and is very proud of both of them. In 1953 shortly after their marriage they bought a home at 922 Weizmann and have lived there ever since and have been a member of St. Mary Magdalen parish for over 50 years. They lived happily all those years. His only hobby was gardening. He did several good works such as Meals on wheels, helping with bingo whenever needed, and his wife would get him involved in other activities such as Alter Society functions. He also liked to watch baseball, basketball and football on T.V. and some good shows. A visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 N. Main, beginning at 5 pm to 9 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 am for a Funeral mass at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1710 Clower, at 10am on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.
