Hirma F “Malde” Moya, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, entered into rest on 29 January 2022 at the age of 79. Hirma retired from Kelly Airforce Base, Civil Service, and was preceded in death by her parents, Hermenegildo and Consuelo Flores, husband, Ernesto Moya, and siblings, Erasmo Flores, Leandro (Lee) Flores, Miguel (Mike) Flores, Consuelo (Chita) Martinez, Geronimo (Toto) Flores. She is survived by her son, Ernesto Moya Jr., daughter-in-law, Daniela Moya, daughter, Monica Moya, grandsons, Javan, Kaleb, and Isaac Moya, granddog, Kirby Renfrow Moya and numerous extended family.
Hirma was a polite, humble woman with a great sense of humor. She was quick to offer a hand or an ear when needed. It was not unusual for her to be on the phone when we walked in the door, and still listening to the person even after she said she needed to go. She enjoyed social luncheons with her friends where they would talk endlessly about everything happening in their lives and the world. She was not shy about speaking her mind, especially when it came to “#45”. She valued education and instilled this in her children. She graduated with her Associates degree in Spanish when Ernest Jr. graduated from high school. She was a devout Catholic that loved her Lord.
She loved to travel and see the world. She took part in wild and not so dangerous tours and excursions on every trip taken to various parts of the world with family and friends. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan and enjoyed a beer or margarita with pizza during games. Those who knew her saw her gifted talent of quilting. She made quilts of all sizes and for every season. When she wasn’t quilting or weeding out in her plentiful garden, she enjoyed cooking, eating and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandsons. She always had a Christmas fruitcake (ewe) to send and share, and cookies or hard candy on hand for visitors. Her best and most cherished dish is her fried cauliflower with cheese sauce. Noone can quite make it the way she did, though we try. Tamales were another thing that she felt no one could make like her. We would bring many for her to try but she always said, “Mmmmm-mmmmm, these are good, but they just aren’t as good as mine.” The world is a much more boring place without her.
The family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 27th at Roy Akers Funeral Chapels with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 to celebrate a 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a tribute donation to The Alzheimer’s Association, San Antonio & South Texas Chapter https://www.alz.org/sanantonio to support individuals with dementia, their families and caregivers, and the professionals who care for them.
