Luis Daniel “Danny” Garcia, Sr. passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, after a month’s long battle with numerous health issues. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Irma, and Carmela and grandchild, Lauryn. He leaves behind his sisters, Elva, Gracie, and Sylvia, his brothers, Charlie, Rocky, Oscar and Donnie. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Pamela Garcia, and his five children: Luis, Chris, Clarence, Coie and Cassie. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren with one more expected this fall, and three great-grandchildren. Danny was 78 years old.
Danny, one of five sons of Luis and Antonia Garcia’s ten children, spent his entire life in Texas. Born in South Texas in a small town called San Diego, he lived and worked on the family’s dairy farm in Palito Blanco but graduated from Ben Bolt High School. After graduation, he went straight into the Air Force to serve our country. During his service he got to spend time in Guam, which he often spoke of its wondrous beauty and the fun times spent playing on the beach volleyball team. After his military career ended, he met his first wife, Peggy Jo, and started a family right away. His 3 boys (Luis, Christopher, and Clarence) came quickly, all being 2 years after the other. Eventually, time separated him from his wife, and he became a single dad. When his second boy, Chris, was ten years old, he met Coie, Pam’s son, since they lived in the same apartment complex that still exists today in Corpus Christi. Coie and Chris became quick friends and started playing together every day after school. Danny and Pam quickly realized they had formed a great partnership and married in September 1982. They moved from Corpus Christi to Dallas where they welcomed their first and only child together, Cassie, in 1986. Danny had a very long career as an outside technician for Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T for 30 years and retired in 2001. After that he spent most of his retirement working contract jobs, some of which took him to Florida, where he spent his leisure time fishing. He was best known for his sarcasm and dad jokes. His favorite meal was breakfast, especially if it was from IHOP or Denny’s where he could get the sampler platter.
Danny was spunky, very hard-working, and simply loving. His impact can be felt through his kids’ personalities and their children. All are tenacious like him and try to fix everything themselves, no matter how long it takes. These values were instilled in him from his family and the cotton-picking time spent on the farm. He was an extremely caring father, who always made sure there was food on the table and vacations to look forward to.
His service and reception will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2:00PM at Funeraria del Angel Roy Akers in San Antonio. He and Pam have had a wonderful life together and are so grateful for all of God’s blessings.
