

Oswaldo Medina was born in Seguin Texas June 26, 1930 to Estela and Jesus Medina. Oswaldo was a native Texan and graduated from Fox Tech High School. Oswaldo joined the US Army in 1950 and led a long 30 year distinguished career. In 1972, Oswaldo Medina was selected to attend the Sergeant Majors Academy. He graduated on June 15, 1973 with the first graduating class of the Sergeant Majors Academy in El Paso, Texas. CSM Medina served in Korea and Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and two Army Commendation Medals. He proudly served in the US Army for thirty years with him and his family last being stationed in Friedberg Germany where he was the CSM of the Brigade. He retired in 1980 and continued to work in Civil Service at Kelly AFB. Most of CSM Medina’s life was spent being an exemplarily soldier; he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Ellen and Oswaldo married in 1954 in Germany and would celebrate 62 years of marriage. Ellen and Oswaldo had one child, Christina and three grandchildren Tabitha, Alex and Sydney and one great grandchild Chloe. CSM was known to all family as “papa”. He loved his grandkids and was a big part of all their lives. Most weekends were spent barbecuing for family and friends and many tried to get him to start a business with his barbecue. He enjoyed fishing throughout the years and he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy Fan. He was preceded in death by his parents Estela and Jesus Medina, sister Gloria Jaramillo and brother Jesse Medina. He is survived by his wife Ellen Medina, daughter Christina Medina, grandchildren Tabitha, Alex, Sydney, and great-granddaughter Chloe, sisters Idalia Leal, Alma Medina and brothers Mike Medina and Rene Medina and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Sunday December 11, 2016 from 5 pm to 8 pm, with a Celebration of Life service at 7 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers Funeral Home. Funeral services will continue on Monday December 12, 2016 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers Funeral Home at 8:15 am. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9:30 am.
