It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Raymond Lee Grasch, 84, of San Antonio, Texas after a brief illness following several strokes.
Raymond was born on October 5, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky to Raymond Peter Grasch and Juanita Jewel Drake. After graduating as an All-State Football and Baseball player from duPont Manual HS in Louisville, Raymond went on to star on the Indiana University football team playing tight end and punting. After graduation, Raymond began his career working for the Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, IN. He never lost his passion for athletics, participating on innumerable intramural teams. He also pursued a degree in Education in order to be able to coach—his true passion.
Eventually, Raymond left Cummins to become a high school Industrial Arts teacher and Coach. Raymond spent the next 30 years as a football and soccer coach. Raymond spent much of his coaching career in the San Antonio Independent School District at Edison High School, retiring in 2003.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Raymond P. Grasch and Juanita J. Grasch, a sister, Patricia Mangan, and a grandson, Justin Truett. He leaves behind his wife, Sandra Esserick Grasch, a sister, Linda Taylor (Ronnie), his children, Kenneth L. Grasch (Sandie), Teri L. Miles, David A. Grasch (Sandra), Melody A. DeVoe, stepson, Richard E. Block, 10 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.
