just found out about mr. sams passing he would always wave hi as we passed by he was always in his garage or when he could walk, wave by he also knew my sons grandma and father Jorene and steve they are in heaven too

My dearest Sam, we have only found out about your passing today. I know you and my dad are now reunited in heaven. My father, Henry Macias, and Sam were the best of friends. I have fond memories of going over to your house and you and Anne spoiling me and my sister. I am going to miss sending you Christmas cards and receiving yours as well. My parents loved you to pieces as did Ronni and I. Thank you so much for being there for us throughout the years. Until we meet again, we love and miss you. I can only imagine the wonderful reunion you are having with my dad and Anna.

Just learned about Sam's passing. My family and I are heartbroken. He was an amazing person and loved with all his heart. He worked with my father at DLI. He will truly be missed.

Sam was a good friend of my family plus he worked with my mother at DELI. God bless his soul.

Sam was never my supervisor and he was more than just my friend.  When our friend and colleague Henry Macias was sick, my daughter's fourth grade class prayed for him regularly. He promised them a pineapple upside down cake at the end of the school year. . . and he delivered!  Someone asked Maggie if Henry was her grandpa. She said no, but asked Henry if he wanted the job. He said yes, and a bond was formed. When Henry died, Maggie and I were devastated. At the funeral, we noticed Sam all alone, crying by himself. Henry had been his best man. We gathered him in our hug and had a group cry. Another bond was formed. Maggie adopted Sam too, and from that moment on, he was always Grandpa. Sam was part of our family. Now he and Henry are together again. We will always miss the two of them. And I will never forget the kindness they showed a little girl who wanted a Grandpa--and got two! Rest in peace, my friend. Maggie and I loved you dearly.

It is so interesting to read the impact Sam made on so many of my DLIELC colleagues and many employees long before my time.  As with several others on these pages,Sam was my first DLIELC supervisor; he helped develop my first impressions of my new workplace into long-lasting memories. Sam was such a light-hearted, fun person to be around. I've seen him only once since his DLIELC retirement luncheon, but I've thought of him often. I will always remember his kindness and humor. He touched a lot of people, and I was one of them.  God bless you, Sam, for all eternity.

Sam was a kind soul with a big warm smile, a positive attitude, and a willingness to help anyone.  He has obviously touched many people's lives.  He will be missed.

I'll always remember Sam because  of his great smile and because he introduced my husband, Hank, to me! I'll also remember him because he was born on Pearl Harbor Day.  Sam also had a beautiful voice and he'd sing at the annual Black History program.  Guess he'll be singing in the heavenly choir.

My mother, Sharon Irene Dolan,worked with Sam @ DLI for many years. He and Ann were always included in our Christmas celebrations and Sam continued the tradition after Ann had been called home. My mom now lives with us and she sends her love and condolences to the family. We love you Sam and we will miss you...May his memory be eternal.

My heart aches, but my Sammy is at peace. He has been a truely cherished friend and neighbor to my husband, Miguel, and I for 23 years.  He attended functions with us(tamale time, annual work picnics, holiday dinners), he took vacations and trips with us and/or our family.  Words cannot express how greatly he will be missed.  WE LOVE YOU MAN!!! Sam touched many lives and helped further the careers of many DLI employees.  He had a big, strong, beautiful voice that he loved to share at social events.  Now he'll be singing in the choir of the hereafter.

Sam, you will be truly missed, one thing I will always remember about you is the BBQ dinners at your house.  You were always so kind and always invited me,and for that I thank you. Another nice memory is when we were all at The Turtle singing you would always say meow before and after I would sing.

Sam and I met at DLIELC in the 70s.  He was a good friend and always a professional.  Henry Macias, Sam and I car pooled to work for many years.  I will remember all the conversations we had over the years.  Two of the most respected friends.  Sam, you are in good company now.

I met Mr. Floyd at DLIELC in 1994.  He was a very nice supervisor.  He was always happy and would be there for you.   He went to my going away luncheon after he retired, I would never forget him.  He was always a good friend.  Prayers for family!  Blessings!

I met Sam in Egypt long before I came to DLI. Meeting him again here was a rare treat.  Since then he has been a friend, brother, and mentor.  Over the past 3 years we had become closer friends--these moment I will cherish forever.

I first met Sam in VietNam in 1970 when I was in uniform and he a civilian employee with DLIELC.  In l974 I went to work for DLIELC as a civilian and we became work colleagues and close friends since then.  Some of my fondest memories of him is when we were "lunch buddies" at work.  Here's to you, Sam.  Requiescas in pace.

Sam and I went back many years.  He and I were a team that co-taught the Saudi Arabia Navy students when they first arrived at DLI in 1974.  Later on we were supervisors at the same time in General English.  That is when I learned that Sam was such a good cook.  He always volunteered to be my barbecue man when I entertained.  Sam and I always joked about the time that a general from  _________ate nine chicken legs and thighs that Sam had cooked.   When Sam retired from federal service I acted at the master of ceremonies for his retirement celebration.  That was the time that I forgot the name of the DLI commandant when I was introducing the honored guest.  I miss you Sam and my condolences go out not only to your family but also to all the friends and former co-workers that you mentored through the years.

I will always remember Sam's smile, laughter and his cheerful, down-to-earth, supportive nature. I'm sure there are many, many other people who will miss Sam.... I will too. I first met Sam in 2001  and  worked with him at Defense Language Institute, until his retirement.
