In 1942 he joined the 3rd Army under General Patton, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was part of Patton’s march to Berlin.
After WWII, he graduated Texas A&M (Class of ’51), joined the USAF, and flew B29, B36 and B50 bombers during the Korean War.
He married Dorothy Shuman and after the Korean War joined the FAA and finished his aviation career as an Air Traffic Controller at San Antonio International Airport.
Sherman loved hunting, fishing and ranching at their ranch outside of Bend, Texas. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in San Antonio for about 50 years. When his wife Dorothy passed in 2007, he later married Margaret Burns.
Sherman is survived by his wife, Margaret Behrens of San Antonio; son, David Behrens of Arizona; daughter, Nancy Wilson of Colorado; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will be buried with his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Behrens, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on August 17, 2021 @ 9:30am Shelter #3 with a Memorial Service to be held at First Baptist Church 2:30pm.
