

Valeria Lee Ford was born December 2, 1933 to Alvernia and Gladys Garcia. She was born and raised in Luling, Texas and graduated from Rosenwald High School. Valeria then relocated to San Antonio, Texas to attend St. Phillips College. On July 23rd, 1953 Valeria married Alvin Ford Jr and they had 3 beautiful daughters.
Valeria was definitely a woman of great faith and was adamant about giving God the glory. Valeria’s children were baptized at Mt Sinai Baptist Church were they also Served God. She later attended Great Evangelist Temple and her last San Antonio home church was Greater New Birth C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor A.C. Lewis.
She took pride in the home that her and Alvin purchased in 1964 keeping the home as well as the yard immaculate. She played a very influential part in the lives of her grandchildren and she was forever lending a helping hand to any and everyone that crossed her path. She likes to sing, she said scripture every Sunday, and witness to anyone who would listen about Jesus.
Valeria Lee was a well known and respected LVN for 42 years where she started her career at Robert B Green Hospital retiring out of the Brady Green Clinic. There was an article in the paper about an infant she found in the dumpster, she not only saved the baby but nursed the infant back to good health. She retired from nursing and moved to Arizona for 12 years where she assisted raising her youngest grandchildren. She then moved back to San Antonio to work as a hospice nurse for 7 years. After she retired a 2nd time she lived the rest of her life in the Dallas Fort Worth area with her daughters and oldest grandson.
Her husband Alvin proceeded her in death in 1980. She was also proceeded in death by her parents Alvernia and Gladys Garcia, 3 sisters Marjorie Crenshaw, Hattie Lampkin and Ruby Clay, 1 brother Alvernia Garcia Jr.
4 generations was left to cherish her memories: daughters Cassandra Smith, Avis Massey and Rowena Whitfield her husband David. 10 grandchildren: Desmond, Marco, DeShawn and her husband Johnel Jr., Marissa, Kristel, Karrington, Kimberly and David III. 11 great grand kids: Jazlynn, Jayda, Jourdyn, Ashton, Johnel(Tre), Sir Kyrin, Jacob, Brooklynn, Kamden, Kariss and Baylar. 1 great great grandson who she shared a birthday with, Noah.
She is survived by 2 sisters Geneva Davis and Jerlene McClain and her husband Robert and 1 brother James Garcia and his wife Maria.
A wake for Valeria will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Greater New Birth Church, 1719 Burleson, San Antonio, TX 78202. A graveside service will follow at Southern Memorial Park, 3530 Roland Rd, San Antonio, TX 78210.
