Winchell Reginald Campbell Jr aka “Reggie” was born on February 28, 1979 to Mr. Winchell Reginald Campbell and Mrs. Deborah Kaye Winston. He is survived by his wife Zenaida Campbell and Daughter Zoey Simona Campbell, his parents, two sisters Tia (Steven) Benson and Jasmin Turner, two nephews Steven Benson Jr and Tiandre Benson and grand nephew Khalil Benson, father in law and mother in law Eligio & Hilda Ramirez, brothers in law Eligio (Aracely) Ramirez Jr, Juan (Naomi) Ramirez, nieces/nephews Molly Snowden, Joshua Snowden, Owen Rawls, Emily Rawls and Noah Benjamin Juan Ramirez. His dog Cooper.
He was an avid fitness fanatic, photographer and father extraordinaire. To know Reggie was to love him. He never met anyone he didn’t like. If you didn’t like him for whatever crazy reason some how he would wrangle you in and made you like him without even trying. He was always with his camera on his shoulder or his hand looking for the next best thing to photograph. He didn’t like exercising he LOVED it, he would talk so passionately about fitness that he would get you to change some of your eating habits or even get you to do some exercising.
His greatest accomplishment was being a father. Reggie loved Zoey so much that he made sure to document her life through his eyes so that when one day he was no longer here she could look back and know that he was there every step of her life. He cared for her during her first year of her life while Z went back to work, he taught her to love books because he would read to her before bedtime. She loves to “eat healthy” because that’s what her daddy likes. He will miss many milestones in her life and knew that for as hard as he fought to beat cancer it might one day beat him first.
Reggie took the bull by the horns and made sure to be at every event she was a part of and made sure that she had great Christmas’, Birthdays and other holidays he missed. He would Facetime her during those big events while he was away for chemo treatments or hospital stays and made sure to put on a smile and a brave face no matter how he felt inside. He got to take her to her first day of school, got to see her lose her two teeth and hear her talk of who she was going to marry next. She got all of his energy, imagination, intelligence and kind heart.
The love of his life Zenaida, or Z as he called her. He met her of course at the gym. The love they had for each other was endless and unfortunately short lived. She stayed by his side for the last six months and never left his side. She fought to stay with him at MD Anderson because she couldn’t fathom the idea of something happening to him and not having someone to be by his side. He fought long and hard for 3 years and he did it all for the two loves of his life. She will miss him dearly as he was her everything and took great care of him since day one. Why day one, just ask her some day of why he fainted at their wedding?
He was one in a million. He picked on his momma and his sisters incessantly. He made the best drinks even though he really didn’t drink alcohol. He always ordered a cup of coffee and a glass of water even if it was 105 degrees outside. He never took life too seriously and maybe that’s what made him so special he didn’t sweat the small stuff. Take a lesson from his book of life and never forget him. Remember all your encounters with him so that one day when Zoey grows up you can tell her what a wonderful man he was. You will be missed Bruh!!
Viewing for Reggie will be at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX on Saturday May 16, 2020 from 4pm to 9pm. Due to the current quarantine restrictions only 20 people will be allowed to enter the building at any given time. No food will be allowed at the funeral home and everyone must wear a mask. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to assist Zenaida and Zoey with the costs of the funeral services. Zenaida would like to thank all of the hundreds of people that donated food, money, baby sitting services and most of all a shoulder to lean on. There are no words to express the enormous gratitude that she feels for being surrounded by so many that lifted them when they were down. Reggie is no longer suffering and will be looking down on them and this brings her some comfort.
