Brad was the eldest son of Carrick Yeager McGaughey and is survived by his mother, Hallie, brother, Douglas, Sister-in-law, Jennifer, nephew and niece Brake and Hallie McGaughey, uncle Randy Anderson and cousins Andy and David Anderson.
Brad lived out the majority of his life in Sandy Springs, GA., attended James L. Riley Elementary School and graduated Valedictorian of the class of 1985 from Riverwood High School but also found himself at home, early on, in Bridgton Maine, Annapolis Maryland, Denver, CO, Saitama Japan and Augusta GA. Brad attended and lettered in skiing and track at Bridgton Academy, broke the academy scholastic record and received the Spooner award for general excellence for studies, athletics and uprightness of character. He then completed 2 years at the US Naval Academy followed by earning an International Business Degree from the University of Georgia.
Brad spent one year teaching English abroad in the Saitama Prefecture of Japan, then returned to the U.S to engage in all adventures found within the mountains of Colorado. He enjoyed and understood the intricacies and challenges of trading in the financial markets, had a wide spectrum of musical tastes from classical to spiritual with a love for The Eagles, Supertramp and Heart. He particularly loved the movies “Vacation” and “Christmas Vacation”, “My Cousin Vinny”, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and “The Mask.” And, absolutely, would have been a winning contestant on Jeopardy. Despite aggressively battling depression and physical challenges for over two decades, Brad devoted his life to taking care of his Mother, family members, loved ones and friends. He was a member of the original congregations of North Point Church and had strong faith that “we live the life that God sets before us, through Jesus Christ, to the best of our abilities.”
Brad is remembered by his family as “one of the most intelligent, giving, kind souls we have, and might ever know. Our hope is that he is now finally free to smile, run, laugh and love. We are profoundly fortunate to have had him as a son, big brother, brother-in-law and uncle and no words can capture how deeply we loved him and will miss him with every passing moment.
