

Cecile Rita Therese Aubin Smith passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024. She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on October 14, 1922. She graduated from Rhode Island College of Education where she also served on the faculty of the Children’s School, Barnard School. She held a Master’s degree in Education.
She married the love of her life, John Eugene Smith in 1947. Together, they had five children - John Aubin Smith (Diana), Susan Smith DiLeonardo (the late Richard), Paula Smith Bosshardt (Robert), James Aubin Smith (Karin), and Mark Aubin Smith.
She lived an extraordinary life in her 101 years. After raising her family, she worked as a substitute at Duxbury High School in Massachusetts, where she was voted favorite substitute teacher. She spoke 3 languages, learning Spanish in her 70s. She and her husband loved to travel, visiting 8 different countries.
She was an avid water aerobics participant and instructor. She was a talented piano player, teaching in her later years. She was also involved in many organizations – Chastain Garden Club, League of Women Voters, assorted PTAs, Sandy Springs Women’s Club, Holy Spirit SOS founding member, Docent at Atlanta History Museum, Volunteer Tour Guide at the Georgia Governor’s Mansion (serving under 3 governors), Atlanta Symphony Volunteer, American Rug Hookers Guild.
She is survived by her adoring family – all 5 of her children, their spouses, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
A visitation for Cecile will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30327, followed by a funeral mass from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
