

Frances M. Nichols, 94, of Sandy Springs, GA, died March 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Ryals Nichols and daughter, Mary Ellen Nichols. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Nichols; sons, Robert L. Nichols (Deborah), Edward R. Nichols (Kathy), and Gilbert Nichols (Larissa); 7 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Mrs. Nichols worked as a legal secretary for King and Spalding law firm of Atlanta. Mrs. Nichols was known for her philanthropy, charity and generosity. She sought out people in need such as families whose homes burned down, people without food, blankets or clothing. On a modest secretarial salary and her faith in God and people, she found a way to give those families and individuals a helping hand. She wasn’t afraid of anything. As a young woman in the 30’s, she was awarded a Montgomery Ward Scholarship, and decided to ride her two speed bike from New York to Montana. She was a member of the Christ Child Society and made burial gowns for premature babies, among many other volunteer activities. She was faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Dr NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
