

John Franklin Overstreet, Jr., age 90, of Sandy Springs, GA, went to be with Our Lord and Savior on December 2, 2011. John, a wonderful loving husband and father was born in Savannah, GA on March 27, 1921. He graduated from Georgia Tech and served our country for 28 years as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force. As a fighter pilot, he was one of the first test pilots to break the sound barrier. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he worked at the State of Georgia for 16 years. John was an avid lover of trains and traveling and was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irmgard Overstreet; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail Overstreet, Patti and Mike Lacey and Susan and Trey Williams; grandchildren, Noah and Luke Williams; sister and brother-in-law Esther and David Conner. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service at Arlington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd., Marietta, GA 30068. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 4 from 4p.m. to 6 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
