Mary Margaret Abel

Mary Margaret Abel, age 84, passed on Monday, February 19, 2024. Mary is preceded in death by her parent, Edward and Ruth Daley, her loving husband Alex Abel, daughter Alison Horton, sister Jean Vanek, and brother Tom Daley.

Mary lived her life to the fullest. In her early years, she loved spending time with friends and family, playing tennis, and raising her children. Mary had a love for books and enjoyed reading every opportunity she had. As time progressed, she moved to Foley, AL where she lived in a 55+ community. She spent time socializing, going on cruises, and having lunch with friends. Mary had a close group of friends. Four of them made a special surprise trip from Foley, AL to Georgia to visit her in the hospital from January 30th until February 1st of this year. Mary’s greatest joy was the birth of her great granddaughter, Mary Clare, who was born on November 27, 2023. Mary had one goal in mind, to be able to leave the hospital and meet Mary Clare, who was named after her. The day she met Mary Clare was the most beautiful, happy, and magical day ever. With her goal accomplished, Mary passed nine days later surrounded by her family.

Mary is survived by her sons; Charles Hamilton “Scotty” Abel and Bryan Edward Abel, daughter and son-in-law; Dawn McGuire Long and Steve Long, grandchildren; Matthew McGuire, Jessie Barinoswski (Clae), Kasie Long, and Johnathan Horton. She is also survived by her great granddaughter; Mary Clare Barinowski and many nieces and nephews.
