It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria Luisa Ortiz, 91, a cherished resident of Santa Paula for over 70 years. Maria passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at St. John's Hospital, following complications from a mild stroke.
Born in Jarita Ranch, Texas, on May 11, 1933, Maria was the daughter of the late Maria Dora Rodriguez and Clemente Almazan. Her life was a testament to resilience, strength, and a deep love for her family. From her early years working in the cotton fields of Texas, to her time as a belly dancer in a nightclub, and finally as a dedicated employee at Milum's Laundry Services for over 25 years, Maria embraced life’s challenges with tenacity and grace.
A woman of vibrant spirit, Maria had a passion for dancing, knitting, sewing, and creating beautiful custom clothing for her children and grandchildren. Her creativity and loving hands touched the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Maria’s bold attitude and unwavering strength shaped her as a woman who spoke her mind and lived life on her own terms. Above all, she taught her family the values of fighting for what they believed in, showing generosity to others, and nurturing a strong support system.
Her greatest joy and proudest achievement was raising her seven children and several grandchildren and watching her family grow. After leaving a troubled marriage, Maria worked tirelessly to ensure a legacy that would span generations to come.
Maria is preceded in death by her beloved sons, Victor Jesus Ortiz, Manuel Joseph Ortiz, and Armengol Ortiz; her parents, Maria Dora Rodriguez and Clemente Almazan; and several cherished siblings.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her children Elvira Garcia, Raul Ortiz, Maria Villarreal, and Irma Lopez; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and countless extended family and friends who were blessed by her love, guidance, and laughter.
Maria’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and relatives who have offered support and love during this difficult time. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
