It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Sara Angelina Bonales, affectionately known as “Mama,” who passed away on June 23rd, 2025 at the age of 72.
Sara dedicated the majority of her career to the Gold Coast Transit District (formerly SCAT), where she proudly served as a bus driver before being promoted to supervisor. Her strong work ethic and dedication left a lasting impression on both her coworkers and the community she served.
Outside of work, Sara lived life with joy and generosity. She loved to travel whenever she had the chance, and her favorite vacation was a trip to Hawaii for her 50th birthday — a memory she cherished dearly. She enjoyed going to the movies, dining out, and especially taking spontaneous trips to Chumash Casino, which always brought a sparkle to her eyes.
More than anything, Mama loved her family. She adored her two grandchildren, Rene and Anthony, and treasured her role as a grandmother with all her heart. Her warmth, laughter, and incredible sense of humor brought happiness to everyone around her. She had a gift for making people laugh and lifting spirits, even during the hardest times.
Mama was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone — especially her family. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to all of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. Her generosity, loyalty, and unconditional love will never be forgotten.
Mama is survived by her loving children: Martin Bonales, Ruben Bonales, and Lidia Vaiz; her cherished grandchildren: Rene Bonales and Anthony Bonales (Karina); and her beloved siblings: Carmen Chacon (Louie), Paul Vaiz (Cindy), Ernestine Hernandez, Mary De La Cruz (Manuel), and Johnny Vaiz (Laura).
She will be missed beyond measure but remembered always with love, laughter, and gratitude for the beautiful light she brought into our lives.
