Dr Capocchi was born on October 23, 1929 in Chicago Illinois to parents Leonido and Gemma Capocchi, both natives of Italy. He had 3 older sisters, Vera, Beatrice and Lea. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Chemistry and then earned his MD from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1955. He specialized in Ophthalmology and served as a doctor in the Korean War. He married Nancy Christine Luoma in 1962 then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and had 3 children Paula, Andrea and David. The family moved to Marin County in 1968 and Leo practiced medicine in San Francisco in a private office and at St. Luke’s Hospital. In the 90’s he served in the Army Reserve, conducting physicals on enlisted men and women. He retired in 1999.
Dr. Capocchi was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather. He was a loyal friend. He loved animals, art, classical music, cooking, history and mathematics. He was an avid reader with a curious mind and never stopped learning.
Dr. Capocchi is survived by his daughters Paula Capocchi and Andrea Reese (John), son David Capocchi (Laura), grandson Orion Capocchi, and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
His family and friends miss him and will treasure his memories forever in their hearts. A memorial to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made in his honor to Marin Humane and Hospice by the Bay.
