Barbara Ann Harris West, peacefully walked into eternity on Friday, March 18, 2022. She was born July 3, 1929, in Valdosta, GA and later lived in Atlanta, GA, Ormond Beach FL, and then Saraland, AL, where she will be laid to rest.
Barbara worked as a switchboard operator, and reservation clerk. In 1979, she entered the Home of Grace where her life was radically changed. She was saved and dedicated her life to helping women overcome addictions and emotional wounds. She then retired from the Home of Grace after 35 years in the ministry, at the age of 85.
After her retirement, she became a faithful member of the Fountain of Life Church. She also began playing card games at the Saraland Civic Center. She loved Pastor Rodney, the assistant pastors and church staff. When it became too difficult to attend in person, she watched online.
Barbara loved unconditionally, read her Bible and prayed consistently, gave generously, and supported all those around her. Her family and all who knew her were benefactors of her consistent lifestyle. Her forgiving spirit was unique, like her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” West; parents, Turner C. Harris and Elizabeth Lora Sutton; Charles McCormick, the father of her children and friend; her beloved daughter, Elizabeth “Bess” McCormick Glenos, and son-in-law, Pete Glenos; brother-in-law, Rusty Brainard; aunt and uncle, Lynda Sutton and Sam Amos, who opened their home to Barbara and her sister, along with their daughters, Jeane Herns, La Vern Fender and Alice Baggett; her two best friends, Nida Dyess, and Doris Wood-Littleton; as well as many precious nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and dear friends.
Left to cherish Barbara’s beautiful memories are her son, Charles B McCormick; daughter, Candace Anderson (Bobby); her only sibling, Bernena Brainard; cousin, Sandra Amos Davis (Pat); two special cousins: Julia Herns, Sandra Davis; four nieces who she claimed were all her favorites, Ann Gillis (Bob), Jan Brainard, Barbara Minelli (Larry), and Shirley Ellis (Rufus); six wonderful grandchildren, Blenda Stapleton (William), Corey Biggs, Carrie Cash (Audie), Paul Anderson (Arriell), Joseph Anderson, and Richie La Rossa; ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. West will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the 1 p.m. chapel funeral service at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Interment will immediately follow in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara’s honor of Home of Grace Ministries or Fountain of Life Church in Saraland, AL. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-saraland.com.
