
A political and labor leader, he was a past elected delegate to the Alabama State Democratic Executive Committee, and a member of the trust committee of that organization. He was also a member of the Mobile County Democratic Executive Committee and M.A.D.A. He served for 18 years as Business Manager of Local 505, IBEW, and was a former President of the Mobile County Building and Construction Trades Council. Dixon served as a vice president of the Alabama State Electoral Workers Association and served for five years as a member of the (C.I.R.) Council for Industrial Relations for the Electrical Industry in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corp. He was a two-time Past Commander of the American Legion, Woodie Dixon, Jr. Post 153 of Prichard, Alabama. He was a member of the Alabama Senior Citizens “Hall of Fame” He was a native of Prichard, Alabama and a resident of Chickasaw, Alabama. He was a graduate of the 1940 Class of Murphy High School, and upon his discharge from the Army Air Corps, he attended Spring Hill College and the University of Alabama. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasaw, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife Elouise Gregory Dixon and his son, Keith Rae Dixon. He is survived by one daughter, Denise Holloway (Phillip), one son, George Edward Dixon, Jr. Five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside services and interment will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Wolf Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday 12 Noon until 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
