John Lamar Wright, a resident of Orange Beach, AL, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, with his daughters by his side. Lamar is preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Dianne Wright; his parents, John Velpoe Wright and Grace Wright Spencer (Orville); and sister, Gloria Wright Weldon. He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Wright Williams (Shane) and Catherine McKenzie Wright; granddaughters, Kinsley Brooke Williams and Avery Grace Williams; sister, Shirley Wright Smith (T.K.); and brother-in-law, Ricky Weldon; Orville’s children, Vicki Tindle, Valerie Usher, and Robert Spencer; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lamar retired to Orange Beach, AL after 32 years as an agent with Alfa Insurance. He enjoyed going to the beach, fishing, boat riding, and golfing during the spring and summer and spending time with family, hunting, and watching Alabama football at his other home in Pine Apple, AL during the fall and winter. He was a provider and family man not only to his immediate family, but also to extended family and friends. Some called him John Lamar while others called him Uncle Lamar. He was proud of his family and proud of his last name. He was proud of who he was and the life he made. This is not goodbye, but until we meet again. But until then, “I love you to the beach and back!” Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 17, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. I will surely miss Lamar. He and I hung out at the beach before I moved away last year. Orange beach will not be the same without him. I have some great memories with him.

Another good friend gone too soon. I loved deer hunting with you, Lamar, and your dad, Valpoe, as we called him back in the day. Also loved sitting around the bonfire at the Pine Apple house and watching Alabama football with you and the gang.
You will be sorely missed. Heaven awaits. RIP till then. 🙏 Prayers for the family.

Lamar was my cousin ,and we were at times as close as brothers . My memories of us growing up on granddaddy's farm the times we shared at Bear Point in the summer fishing and swimming. The winters in Pine Apple hunting and enjoying Alabama football. Those were days I will never forget as we grew into men our dads were proud of. From my heart you are not forgotten ,but you will be missed beyond words. Love you forever your cousin your brother Larry Wright

Such sad news, but with it brings sweet memories. Praying for all of the family that your hearts will be filled with joy and even laughter as your thoughts are flooded with memories of this sweet man.

Although he pretended to not like the name, Uncle Louie that I called him, he would laugh and roll with it. We spent lots of time arguing and going back and forth about Alabama & Auburn football! And, yes when Kenz went to Auburn, I finally got a War Eagle! He also would keep my oldest daughter, Brooklyn. Each time he had to take her to Hooters to eat! Rest easy! Love you Uncle Louie
