Mayme Elizabeth Holmes

Mayme Elizabeth Holmes, age 91 and longtime resident of Saraland, AL, passed away at her home on Monday, August 11, 2014. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil E. Massey and Clent F. Holmes, sister Emma Bernice Willmann and brothers Donald Edward Simmons and William “Bill” Simmons. Mrs. Holmes retired after 30 years of service as a telephone operator and Assistant Chief Operator with A T& T. She was a talented musician playing guitar for many gospel groups the most recent being The Hanks Drifters Gospel Band. She had a beautiful singing voice and was singing until recently when her health began to fail. She was a member of Bayou Sara Baptist Church for many years. Her children and grandchildren will remember her as a loving grandmother who always welcomed them to her home with a good home cooked meal. Mrs. Holmes is survived by her children, Cecil Wayne Massey (Boots), Linda Marie Massey Williams and Julia Dianne Massey Gates (Frank). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kenneth , Kevin and Dean Williams, Brett, Bart, Todd and Keith Massey, Russell and Clint Gates and Ginger Gates Lyndall. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Saraland on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Bayou Sara Baptist Church on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lambert Cemetery.
