Percy Dean Lane, long time resident of Chunchula, Alabama passed Friday, February 8, 2013 in Springhill Memorial Hospital after a long fight against COPD. Born in Fairhope, Alabama, January 8, 1945, to Austin and Lola Lane, Percy was born poor but didn't know it at the time as his home was filled with love, and he would often tell stories of not having shoes till he was 10 and counting the holes in the floor. Percy was a graduate of Fairhope High School class of 63' Upon graduation Percy joined the Army Reserves where he served Six years. Percy owned and operated Lanes Auto Repair for 31 years before retiring to the serene joy of watching the deer from his porch with his bride of 47 years. He was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting, but found the fondest of his memories being of those times he spent hanging out with the guys. Percy enjoyed racing stock cars at Mobile International Speedway for several years before he turned in his gear to collect classic cars. At the least this ensured the cars were in one piece come Sunday morning. No matter how you new him if it was by Percy, Percy Dean or P.D. he was always ready to talk. All that knew him knew that he loved nothing more than to pick gospel and bluegrass music. The guitar that sat at the door of his automotive shop was a welcome sign for his friends. Good service and hot coffee was what awaited his buddies who would visit while heir wives were at the beauty shop getting an overhaul as they called it. Percy is a Past Master of Howard E Blackwell Lodge #899 and was later appointed Assistant District Lecturer, then served as District Lecturer for Group 7, was a Dual Member of the Citronelle Lodge #637 and joined the Scottish Rite 32nd degree in 1999. The Lane family would like to thank the staff and physicians of Springhill Memorial Hospital as their care super exceeded the standards of the health care regulations. Percy always said "Things happen in life that you have no control over, deal with it and move on!" and that's what he would want today, deal with and move on! Percy is preceded in death by his parents Austin and Lola Lane; his sister Louise (Jesse) Warrick; and his brother Bo Lane. Percy is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Helen, his daughters Regina Lane (Gary) Smith and Cynthia Lane; his sisters Shirley (Raymond) Brown and Brenda Lane; his brother Jess (Margaret) Lane; his sister Angel Langham; his brother Edward Lane; his grandsons Michael and Justin Brown and Darrell Cruce Jr; his great granddaughter Alexis Whitting; and nieces and nephews. Percy would want nothing more than to have a special mention of his Aunt Jewel and Uncle Larry Shimek as they held a special place in his heart. As family goes Percy had more than just sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws in his family they were more to him like brothers and sisters. He dearly loved and cherished his Brother-in-law Ricky and sister-in-law Betty Huggins; Brother-in-law George and sister-in-law Margaret Green; And his sister-in-law Pauline Murray. Funeral services will be Monday, February 11, 2013 at 2 pm from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
