Sue was born on October 28, 1946, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, to Jim and Jerry Thompson. She was the oldest of four children and is survived by her siblings: Cynthia Knapp, Jim Thompson, Jr. (Leslie), and John Thompson (Connie). After years of family moves with the Air Force, she attended Davidson High School, in Mobile, Alabama, graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School, in Trussville, Alabama, attended the University of Alabama, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, then married her first husband, William “Bill” Lambert, and they made their home in Mobile, Alabama, where she was a long-time resident.
She was preceded in death by her second husband of 39 years, Sidney Harold Tait, and dear sister-in-law, Cynthia Ciaburri. She leaves behind her only child, loving daughter, Denise Lambert Moore (Keeley). She was the proud “Mamaw” of her grandchildren: Patrick Moore, Micah Moore (Mauria), Taylor Moore, and Mackenzie Moore. She loved, and will also be missed by, her many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sue will be remembered by her family and friends as a creative writer, artist, musician, dancer, and actress. She enjoyed performing in community theater with the Joe Jefferson Playhouse in Mobile, Alabama. She played the violin and piano. She sketched and painted in both her early and later years. She was an avid reader, often expressed her thoughts and experiences in journals, and was a published author.
She designed and helped build their house in Deer Park, Alabama, where she and Sid lived for over 20 years. It was a labor of love that they were very proud of and hosted many family gatherings. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, in Deer Park, Alabama. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of summers spent there fishing in their pond and going to “Mamaw camp.” She and Sid always embraced family time and moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 2017, to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren.
