

Wayne was a 1963 graduate of Calcedeaver High School in Mt. Vernon, AL. He attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN before joining the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. He was close to his grandfather Thomas E. Byrd, whom he loved very much. His grandfather was a minister who instilled Bible knowledge. Wayne’s hobbies included collecting Elvis’s music and memorabilia, growing cacti, and gardening. Wayne was a full member of the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians—a state recognized tribe of Southwest Alabama.
Wayne is survived by Elsie Allen Byrd and her three children—Nikita A. Allen of Tallahassee, FL, Paris C. Allen of Mobile, AL, Princess Allen Rodriquez of Houston, TX.
He is survived by his daughter Robyn Byrd Willson (Kyle) and grandchildren Miles and Arabella Willson, all of Durham, NC. Wayne is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Lola Byrd Melton (Frank) of Wilmer, AL, Eleanor Byrd Davis (Ory) of Mt. Vernon, AL, Beverly Byrd Goldman (Bruce) of Chunchula, AL, Samuel Joe Byrd (Patricia) of Mt. Vernon, AL, Clarence Byrd (Rose) of Mt. Vernon, AL, Brother-in-law J. T. Byrd of Mt. Vernon, AL. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Wayne is preceded in death by his son; Gregory Wayne Byrd of Mobile, AL, beloved sister and niece; Annez and Julia Byrd of Mt. Vernon, his parents; Samuel and Cleo Byrd of Mt. Vernon, AL.
A wake will be held Friday May 2, 2025 at Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Pkwy., Saraland, AL from 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow Saturday May 3, 2025, at 2 p.m. with a graveside service at the Byrd Cemetery on Coy Smith Highway, Mt. Vernon, AL 36560.
