Calvin lived in North Port, Florida. He was born on January 8, 1931, in Sarasota, Florida, to Samuel Leonard and Gladys Bertha Sweeting. He was the devoted and beloved husband of Alma Ruth Sweeting for 64 wonderful years, a testament to a life filled with love and commitment.
Calvin is survived by his loving son, Sam (Debra); three cherished grandsons, Jason (Anna), Josh (Melissa), and Kyle (Eve) Sweeting; and six adoring great-grandchildren, Holden, Lennon, Cora, Ford, Owen, and Peyton. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his son, Vance.
Calvin found joy in life's simple pleasures - fishing, gardening, and vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, creating memories that will be held close for generations. He was an active member of the Venice Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a proud, honored veteran who served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Korean War.
Calvin will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and the warmth he brought to those around him. His smile and laughter were truly special and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation to honor and celebrate his life will be held on April 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, Florida.
Following the visitation, a committal service will take place at Palms Memorial Park from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., where family and friends will gather to share in remembrance and say their final goodbyes.
