Currie Rulofson Weed, age 93, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on November 13th, 2025. Currie was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1932 and lived much of his young life in Goldens Bridge, NY on Silroc Farm where he spoke fondly of his work ethic in raising chickens, rabbits and his precious bees to make and sell honey during a time of sugar rationing. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL where he graduated from mechanics school at the top of his class and served as an aircraft mechanic instructor for new recruits. No stranger to working hard, he also ran a Standard Oil gas station during this time and took courses on jet engines, electronic fuel control systems, rockets and jet propulsion. In 1954, Currie met and married the love of his life, Mary Louise Holzhauer. Currie left the Air Force in April of 1955 and moved to Morton, Illinois where their first son, James Andrew Weed was born. Shortly after, Currie, Mary and Jim moved to Dearborn, Michigan where he was employed on “day one” at the new (Ford) Edsel Division. With his mechanical knowledge, he wrote the service manual for the 1957/1958 Edsel and called on Edsel dealers in Michigan and Ohio. During his 30+ years at Ford, he held jobs in Atlanta and Richmond, VA, had two more children (Gail Louise and Jonathon Currie), travelled the world with Mary on a variety of Ford incentive trips (and later with dear friends), and eventually moved into an executive leadership position.
In 1987 Currie retired from Ford to pursue a new career as the President of Automotive Service Consultants in Birmingham, Alabama where he successfully led the company, eventually selling it and finally “retired”. During his time in Birmingham, he and Mary enjoyed designing and overseeing the construction of their dream home which won 1st prize on the Parade of Homes in 1988. Currie also bought and rebuilt two Edsel convertibles, finally buying a beautiful teal model that he drove in many 4th of July parades with grandkids in tow building a lifetime of family memories. At this time, Currie and Mary also decided to learn how to play golf which blessed them over the next 20 years living on a golf course in Laurel Oak (Sarasota, FL) and at Boyne Country Club (Harbor Springs, MI).
One of Currie’s life-long passions was to help kids understand the values of hard work, perseverance, teamwork and integrity (values he lived every day). He created a calendar for schools called “WHO do YOU want to be?” and later in life invested his time, energy and leadership skills to begin a Chapter of The First Tee in Northern Michigan, which teaches kids nine core values essential for success in golf as well as for personal growth and development. His legacy lives on as the Chapter just celebrated its 20th year and has grown significantly. As his first director of the First Tee wrote to us, “Both your parents had an extraordinary gift for seeing potential in young people and nurturing it to create leaders of tomorrow.” In lieu of flowers, we are asking people to support this special program that helps to change kids’ lives and give them future opportunities.
