David Samuel Simon, age 58, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Born in New York City, David and his family moved to Sarasota in 1970.
A Social Security/Disability attorney who ran his own practice, David derived great satisfaction helping clients navigate the complex and challenging disability benefits process. As one of his clients said, “David walked me through every step of my case and treated me like family.”
A lifelong advocate for the underserved and the disadvantaged, David provided many hours of pro bono work through Legal Aid of Manasota.
David also was a dedicated Tampa Bay Lightning fan who regularly attended games — including several Stanley Cup finals — for more than 30 years.
David graduated from Pine View School in Sarasota in 1984. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Brandeis University in 1988 and Law degree from the Boston University School of Law in 1992.
A devoted husband, son, brother and uncle, he is survived by his wife, Ellen, his father, Stephen Simon, his sister, Nancy Koplin (Seth), sisters-in-law Nancy Stern and Roberta Saal (Paul), nephew Eli, nieces Jaclyn, Stephanie, Danielle and Rachel, and great-nieces and nephews Gabby, Naomi and Olivia, Tadhg, and Jonah. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Peggy Simon.
Funeral service for David will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Temple Beth Sholom, 1050 S Tuttle Ave, Sarasota, FL 34237. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 11:15 AM at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery, 801 Circus Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34232.
