Born on March 23, 1940 in Worcester, MA, he received a BS degree in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MS degree in Industrial Administration from Union College in Schenectady, NY.
He married Carol, his longtime sweetheart, in 1963. After receiving his ROTC Commission, she accompanied him to Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, AZ, where he spent two years in the US Army working on experimental drone development. They started a family, and Don joined IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1965. After holding numerous technical and management positions, he retired after 36 years.
Carol and Don moved to Sarasota in 2007, after she retired from her teaching career. He loved his family and dogs, and enjoyed carpentry, gardening, animals and nature.
His son Scott and brother Rick predeceased him. He is survived by Carol, his loving wife of 59 years, his daughter Laurie and significant other Daryl in Poughkeepsie, NY, and granddaughter Arielle and significant other Christopher in Wappingers Falls, NY, his brother Wayne and significant other Ronni in Boston, MA, and several extended family members in Chicago, IL and Connecticut.
A ceremony to honor Donald will be held at the family home at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Humane Society of Sarasota County, or the charity of your choice.
