Edith Virginia Riley Sims

February 2, 1917 - November 19, 2010

Edith Virginia (Riley) Sims, 93, of Sarasota, passed away at Manor Care Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lee Roy Sims; her mother Bessie Burdette Riley and her father, John Riley.

Edith was born in the mining town of Caperton, West Virginia and lived in West Virgina until 1958 when she moved to Florida.

She is survived by her daughters, Deanna Sims of Sarasota, with whom she lived for 20 years, Mary Jo Couillard of Sarasota; her sons, Larry Edward Sims of Webster and John Michael Sims, also residing with her in Sarasota; her sister Jane Young of Sarasota; six grandchildren, Luanna Wilhite, Roxanna Shepherd, Richard Abbott, Denise Abbott, Brian Sims and David Sims and four great grandchildren, Alannah Shepherd, Kurt Martinez, Christina Sims and Nathan Sims.

Edith was previously a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in her life was her family. She also loved to remember her early life in West Virginia and was always ready with a story from that era of her life.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 from 10:00am to 11:00am with funeral services at 11:00am at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home, Sarasota. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa.
