Ernest Raymond Oberg
28 June, 1940 – 31 December, 2022

Ernest “Ernie” Oberg, 82, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022 at his home in Sarasota, FL with his wife at his side. He had been battling cancer for over 10 years.
Ernie was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and was the oldest of four brothers. He graduated from North High School and Lake Quinsigamond Community College. After college, he served in the U.S. Army for five years and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Ernie worked for New England Telephone for many years. He held various positions but mainly served in the engineering department.
After retirement, Ernie moved to Cape Cod, where he enjoyed many happy years. He embraced the Falmouth community and delivered Meals on Wheels for over a decade.
Ernie was a Mason for 60 years and he was a longtime member of the Marine Lodge in Falmouth, MA.
He was an avid Cribbage player at the Senior Center and with other groups.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Oberg and Claire Collins Oberg; his first wife, Eileen Looney; brother, Ronald Oberg.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Oberg; brothers, Robert Oberg (Doreen) and Kenn Oberg (Starr) both of The Villages, FL; brother-in-law, Thomas Leiser (Phyllis) of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Gail Oberg of Belchertown, MA.
A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Avenue in Sarasota. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
A committal service, with military honors, will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery.
