Esperanza, lovingly known as Mama Mancha, the cherished matriarch of her family, passed away leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that spans generations. Born in Pihuamo, Colima, Mexico, she lived a life guided by devotion — to God, to family, and to caring for others.
A true prayer warrior, Esperanza kept her faith at the forefront of everything she did. Prayer was her strength, her comfort, and her way of protecting those she loved. Her belief carried her through life’s challenges and was something she passed down as faithfully as any tradition.
She was a gifted seamstress, an extraordinary cook, and a woman deeply devoted to natural healing. Her tortillas were legendary - made with patience, love, and lots of Crisco — and her treasured recipe was lovingly passed down through the family, allowing her presence to live on in kitchens for generations. She was full of old
family remedies, always ready with a natural cure, a warm meal, or a comforting word.
Esperanza had a deep love for coffee, and there was never a time when coffee wasn’t always on the stove, ready to be poured for anyone who walked through her door.
A lifelong caregiver, she was known for always caring for others and giving to her family without hesitation. She welcomed all extra family members—through marriage or through life’s many paths - with open arms, making everyone feel included, loved, and at home.
She was also a loving disciplinarian to the entire family, guiding with firmness, humor, and a strong code of ethics that everyone knew and respected. Her lessons shaped character, instilled values, and kept generations grounded.
She had a joyful and generous spirit and never could pass by a good yard sale or thrift store. She proudly brought home her treasures and bargains to show her family. Much of what she found, she lovingly carried back each year to give away to the people in her village in Mexico, where she was well known for her charity and giving heart.
Esperanza was famously a clean freak, often staying up late to mop floors to perfection — once done, no one dared walk on them. Even in this, her care shined through, as her home reflected the pride, order, and love she poured into everything she did.
She also had a joyful and refined side — being a sophisticated lover of San Matías Legado tequila and beer, best enjoyed with laughter, stories, and family close by.
She was the proud mother of 12 children: Victoria, Lourdes, Celia, Leopoldo, Berta, Efrain, Irma, Fabiola, Eufracia, German, Oscar, and Juan.
Esperanza was the heart of her family — the one who prayed over them, fed them, corrected them, healed them, laughed with them, welcomed them, and loved them unconditionally. Her influence lives on in every prayer whispered, every tortilla made, every lovingly cleaned floor, every shared toast, every cup of coffee poured, and every value passed down.
Her legacy is immeasurable. Her love is everlasting. Her memory is eternal. And though we take comfort in the life she lived and the love she gave, we will miss her immensely.
