He was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 6 of 1938 to Charles Herbert Sparling and Ida Agnes Schmuhl Sparling.
He graduated Sarasota High School in 1957 and obtained some college credits.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Joan Highleyman Sparling.
Additionally, he leaves his three children: Charles Walker Sparling of Georgia, Susan Sparling Finlay of Florida, and John Wellington Sparling of Idaho; and three grandchildren: Logan Spencer Finlay of Florida, Aiden Montgomery Sparling and Greyson Mitchell Sparling, both of Idaho.
