Gil was born on February 6th, 1947 to Gilbert Sr. and Mary Zawadski (nee Palumbo) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He attended Bassick High School in Bridgeport and graduated in 1965. He then attended Alderson Broaddus College in Phillippi, West Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1971. Gil was hired by the State of Connecticut after college and worked as a juvenile court probation officer for 33 years. He retired to Bradenton, FL in 2001. Gil met his wife Sharon in 1965 and they, very sweetly, attended prom together. They graduated and went their separate ways and met again in 1971. They then married in December of 1973 and were married for 50 years. Gil and Sharon had one son, Daniel. Daniel was the light of Gil’s life and made Gil very proud.
Gil was a volunteer and advisor for the Southbury-Middlebury Community Youth Council during his time as a probation officer and he was a member of the Jaycee’s club in Connecticut. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and West Virginia University sports. Gil loved talking sports, especially with his son. He enjoyed watching classic game shows and especially old westerns. He was a lover of animals and cherished many beloved pets over the years. Cooking Italian food became a well enjoyed hobby in his retirement years as well.
Gil had a somewhat “no-nonsense” outlook on life. But, he was funny and intelligent and had great stories to tell about his life and experiences. He loved and cared very much for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Gil is preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Sr. and his mother, Mary.
Gil is survived by his wife Sharon Zawadski (nee Green), his son Daniel Zawadski, and his daughter-in-law, Carol Zawadski, along with many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Funeral services will be held privately on Monday June 10th, 2024 and a memorial will follow on a later date yet to be determined. Gil will be interred at Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery in Sarasota.
Calling hours for Shiva will be from 1pm to 4pm on Monday June 10th through Friday June 14th. Please feel comfortable coming to the home that Sharon and Gill shared together to offer condolences during those times.
