Kim is survived by her daughter, Caitlin (Abe) Kozma; her grandchildren, George and Frances (Cayden and Ayla); her sisters, Tammy Owens, Teresa (Kevin) Stell and Michele Owens; her nieces, Erin (Adam and Alden) Lumia, Lauren (Elizabeth) Merklinger, Jenny Kathryn Merklinger, and Riley Stell; and her nephews Devan and Parker Stell. She is predeceased by her parents, the late George and Ruth Owens; her brother, George Owens Jr.; and her granddaughter Catherine.
Kim grew up in Shortsville NY, and had moved to Florida in the last year to help her daughter who is currently battling metastatic breast cancer. She was a nurse for over 20 years in the Finger Lakes area, with most of her time spent as a nurse at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. Most recently, she was a nursing manager at Westminster Pointe Pleasant in Bradenton, Florida. In June, Kim was given a devastating diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease). She will be remembered most for her quick wit, her love for her family and her dog Vinny, and her enduring friendships. She is already missed terribly by her grandchildren, who ask for their Gram Gram every day. She was beautiful inside and out, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at St. Dominic’s Church in Shortsville, NY beginning at 10 am. Please note that in accordance with NYS Health Guidelines, social distancing and masks will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ALS Association Florida Chapter at 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa FL 33619 in memory of Kimberly Dean or Metavivor, INC 1783 Forest Dr. #184 Annapolis, MD 21401 in honor of Caitlin Kozma.
