

Her daughter Carole was with her, holding her hand & talking to her at the time of passing.
She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Carole & Gordon Norquay, a grandson John Janendo, a granddaughter Rene Gargan & four great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 60 years, Arthur W. Gugel, pre-deceased her in 2003.
In school she loved chemistry & biology & received a school letter for sports. She also received a Red Cross Life Saving Certificate at the Y.M.C.A. After graduating from Flushing High School in NY, Helen attended a business school & then took employment at the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co.
Helen & Artie were married on Sept. 9, 1943, while Artie was still in the Navy. In 1945 Carole came along, & in 1953 they moved to Wappingers Falls, NY where they built their own home with the help of Artie’s brother Bill. After Carole graduated high school, Helen went to work for Dr. Gordon Marx, D.D.S. where she stayed until Artie retired in 1972. In 1973 they moved to Naples, FL, in 1987 to Ft. Myers, FL & then to Ocala, FL in 2000. In 2003 they moved to the Cincinnati area in Ohio to be closer to Carole & Gordon. Helen, Carole & Gordon moved to Lakewood Ranch, FL after Gordon retired in 2004. Helen & Artie loved to travel and visited many places including Europe, China, Japan & Canada. They also visited all 50 states. She was a resident of Life Care Center of Sarasota for three years preceding her death.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at Life Care Center in the afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
