On October 10, 2023, at 12:01 a.m., Martin Meyer Goldman peacefully breathed out his last breath. Marty has been described as a human utility tool; being handy in the way he could help you fix a problem and do it so quietly. If you needed something, he had it. He always gave you what you required and sometimes what you did not know you wanted, like space. Although a worrier it was never about himself, but his way of caring about everyone. He was the “Jewish Mother” of the family, a ball of smiles and easy to be with. He was a moral man, a good listener, and a great coach. He was always Marty. Riva says, “the most striking thing about grandpa was his level of soothing patience and acceptance. For all the summers I spent with him as a child and any moment when I have been in his presence, has come with such a deep level of allowance…allowing me and others to be exactly as they are and leaning into the embrace with love and thoughtful tenderness.” And, Joshua says, “For me, grandpa was the epitome of a modern father figure upholding appropriate and just traditional values while challenging injustices of the times brought about by old school traditional mindsets. He was a loyal friend, and he encouraged me to be confident in myself as a man. I would not have that confidence without him.” A loving man of modern architecture, antiques, watches, cars, guns, people, philosophy, books, and jigsaw puzzles. He was a loyal Bills fan and would always refer to Buffalo as “home,” where he went to college and raised his family.
He left behind his 3 children; Jeffrey (wife Deborah), Faythe, Marc (wife Gail) and 3 grandchildren; Joshua (wife Ellie), Riva and Hannah and great granddaughter, Felicity. He also left behind his stepchildren; Susan Butler, Cathy Ellis and Carl Durham (wife Pam) and their families along with his partner, Marian Smith and her son, Ian (wife Amanda).
He was pre-deceased by his entire birth family and both his wives. His private funeral and interment took place on October 12th at noon at Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota, Florida. If you wish to make a donation in his name, he would have deeply appreciated your support of your local animal shelter or the ASPCA. He will be missed by all who know him.
