The patriarch of a large family, Marty was a loving husband to Mavis Yorks Shindler, and previously to Carolyn Shindler and Lenore Shindler; a devoted brother to Florence Abramson and predeceased by David Shindler; beloved father to Robert and Jolene, Norman and Marjie, Steven and Kelley, and Michelle; stepfather to Jeff and Janie, Jill, Neva, Stephanie and Lloyd, Daniel, and Lindsay; doting grandfather to Jason, Jennifer, Jamie, Robyn, Jessie, Jordan, Ryan, Adam, Carly, Jake, Jenna, Ethan and Brett; and proud great grandfather to Samantha and Jacob. He also leaves behind a legion of extended family, friends and Ziggy, for whom the loss is irreplaceable.
Marty’s heart knew no bounds and he followed it on a colorful journey that took him from his childhood in the Bronx to his youth serving his country during World War II; through adulthood serving his community as President of Temple Beth Ahm in Springfield; and on to his later years in Sarasota, serving family and friends variously as sage, business partner, mensch, caregiver and extraordinary example of a life well lived.
Memorial services to celebrate Marty’s life will begin at 11:30am on Sunday, March 13, at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Rd, Longboat Key, FL. Future remembrance services will also be planned at Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael in Springfield, NJ.
The family would like to extend sincerest thanks to Dr. Dean Hautamaki and Dr. Stephen Culp for their outstanding care over the years.
