

Patricia S Hodge passed away November 23, 2018, in Lakewood Ranch, FL. She was 98 years old and in hospice care. Pat was born July 17, 1920, in Liverpool, England, to Sydney and Dora Sutcliffe. She came to the United States aboard the SS Haverford in 1923 with her parents and 1 year old brother, William Brian Sutcliffe. Pat grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Clifton Heights High School in 1938. She attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital in 1940 to become a medical laboratory technician. She married Carleton T Hodge in 1943 in Philadelphia and moved to Bloomington, IN, for a year while Carleton taught at Indiana University. Pat and Carleton returned to Philadelphia in 1944 where Carleton taught at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1946, they moved to the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, where Carleton worked for the State Department. Pat raised 4 children who survive her, Philip E Hodge, Nina Hodge Williams, Nicholas S Hodge (Maya Ruettger-Cruciana) and Charles S Hodge (Lisa Lang). Pat had 2 surviving grandchildren, Katherine E Hodge and Alexandra N Hodge.
She and the family moved to Bloomington, IN, in 1964, where Carleton taught at Indiana University. She enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross, Bloomington Hospital, and Meals on Wheels. She participated in Indiana University Women’s Clubs, sharing books, hiking, and helping foreign students. Pat enjoyed attending the Indiana University symphony, ballet, and opera. Pat and Carleton hosted many dinners for faculty and students from other countries. Pat enjoyed cooking and trying new foods from around the world.
Pat moved to Lakewood Ranch, FL, in 2014, to live near her daughter, as she was becoming in need of more assistance. She enjoyed Sarasota Orchestra performances, lunches by the bay, and most of all, visits from family.
Pat was laid to rest next to Carleton and other family members at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia, PA, on November 28, 2018.
