Tom was born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio. He met Marian at DePauw University in Greencastle Indiana, while both were enrolled there. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and graduated in 1950. After college, Tom and Marian married and he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Tom and Marian moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they resided until they moved to New Jersey in 1963. They made their home in Short Hills, New Jersey where they raised their three sons. Tom received a certification as a Certified Financial Analyst and held positions with various brokerage firms in New York City. He retired as a financial analyst from New York Life Insurance Company in 1986. Shortly thereafter, Tom and Marian moved to Sarasota where they resided until their deaths. Tom was a lifelong saxophone player and was a member of several local jazz bands. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to France. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing tennis and socializing with friends at the Sanderling Club. He continued tennis, playing the saxophone and traveling until his later years when the cruelty of dementia stopped him from these pursuits. He was lovingly cared for in his last days by the wonderful family at Live Oak Manor Assisted Living Facility. Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A private memorial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
