Warren Day Blake, Sr., 88, of Sarasota, FL, and formerly of Derby, CT, died peacefully surrounded by family on June 19, 2013.
He grew up in Monroe, CT before joining the US Navy to serve during World War II aboard the USS Columbia. After the war, he returned to Connecticut where he worked for BF Goodrich in Shelton for 27 years. He was also a Storm Engine Past Captain in Derby as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for 15 years. He and his family then moved to Sarasota, FL in 1974 where he was employed by Sarasota County's Parks & Recreation Department for 18 years before retiring.
He is predeceased by his parents, Hermon and Dorothy (nee Conaty) Blake; brother, Bob; and sister, Charlotte.
Warren is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vincenza Jean Colantuono Blake; children, Warren Jr. (Susan), Gary (Jennifer), Sandy (Ron), and Christine (Roger); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Tom; sister, Doris; and many other family members that will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be Sat, Jun 22 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM with Funeral Service on Sun, Jun 23 at 11:00 AM, both at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home in Sarasota.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Warren's name to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
